Assistance with Summer Academy's Credit Courses

For assistance during the summer, please contact Judy Walton, Summer Academy administrator, at jwalton@fhps.net.

Registration Dates

Registration begins Monday, May 3, 2021. Please see specific offerings below for registration deadlines.

Two Semesters for a Full School Year Course Credit

Many courses require students to take and successfully complete two semesters of course content to earn the credit for a full school year course. For example, to earn the full year credit for Face-to-Face Algebra I, a student would need to sign up for both semesters I and II. For an online course, such as Accounting, a student would need to sign up for both Accounting A and Accounting B.

Email Addresses for Registration

For class registration, students need to include a non-FHPS email address for themselves, as well as a parent/guardian email address.

In-Person Summer Courses

In-person summer courses take place at Forest Hills Northern High School, 3801 Leonard NE, Grand Rapids.

Face-to-Face Algebra I

FHPS math teacher Andy Evans is the instructor. Class content is taught in two semesters: first semester content is taught in the first semester session and second semester content is taught in the second semester session. Class meets Mondays through Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and office hours (for assistance/support) are 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. the same days, and on Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $275 per session.

Due to the concentrated format for this class, families who are planning vacations that would result in more than one (1) day missed of instruction are advised to consider other options.

Semester I Session (first semester content): June 14 - July 16 (excluding July 5-9)

Semester II Session (second semester content): July 19 - August 13

Location: Forest Hills Northern High School

Registration Deadline: June 18, 2021

Online Summer Courses

Online courses are available for students looking to advance through the high school curriculum (through Michigan Virtual), or needing to recover course credit (through Edgenuity). Before enrolling, please check with your school counselor to determine the appropriate course selection. When enrolling, please use a non-FHPS student email address to receive the link to your online course. Depending on the day of the week you register, please be aware that it may take up to 48 hours or longer before your online course link is activated and sent to you via email.

Credit Advancement Online Courses – Michigan Virtual

For the student who is taking a course for the first time in order to advance.  Content and instruction are delivered by Michigan certified, highly-qualified teachers in a virtual learning format. In addition, a FHPS teacher, that is associated with our Summer Academy program, will be assigned as mentor and provide virtual support.

Prior to enrollment, the student should check with their school counselor to determine the appropriate course selection.

In order for the course to be placed on the FHPS transcript, a self-paid course form (provided by your counselor) must be completed and all final exams must be proctored by a FHPS staff member. When you register for online classes through this website, enjoylearning.com, your proctored final exam is included in the course's price.

Note: If you enroll in an online course directly with Michigan Virtual (MV), your final exam must be proctored by one of our FHPS Summer Academy staff members in order for credit and your grade to transfer to your FHPS transcript. There is a $25 proctor fee that must be paid prior to taking the final exam. The last day to have exams proctored is Friday, August 13.

To enroll, have the desired course title and semester (either suggested by the school counselor or obtained by perusing the MV site's class list) at hand. Next, go to the Summer Academy class options (select the red enjoylearning.com link below) and from the list of courses, choose Credit Advancement (at the student's school). In the registration notes field, list what class and semester the student would like to take. Then, proceed to the payment screen. Once payment is made, the student's registration is completed.

Online Summer Academic Courses:
Registration Information/Tips

• To receive academic credit for successfully completed online courses, it is recommended that you register for your online courses through Forest Hills Public Schools (red enjoylearning.com links above) and use a non-FHPS student email address when asked for that contact information.

• When registering for online courses through this website and you're on the page listing Summer Academy classes, please make sure that you select the registration link that matches your current high school.

• When entering course titles into the box on the online registration form, please type in the exact course title as shown on our credit advancement course list, or the exact course title as received from your school counselor. If registering for more than one course, please separate course titles with a comma.

• If you want to register for both semesters of an academic subject, select both "A" and "B" courses. For example, a full year of instruction in Accounting would require registration in both "Accounting A" and "Accounting B" and would cost a total of $700 ($350 for each semester).
